May I take the opportunity to welcome you and your son/daughter to Paignton Community and Sports College.
The College has a well deserved reputation as a 'caring community' which does everything it can to ensure that all the pupils are provided with the opportunities for them to make the most of their
individual talents and abilities and the learning environment to encourage them to achieve their best.
The whole function of Paignton Community and Sports College is rooted in the Aims and Objectives of the College. Schemes of work, procedures and routines, the College Development Plan and all other areas of activity, whether academic or social, reflect these aims. They represent the cornerstone of what we believe to be important. The values expressed in the aims are not subject to change, but reflect our basic ideals.
In recent years the College has achieved national recognition for the quality of the education it provides for its pupils, gaining a number of highly prestigious awards, most notably:
- Excellence Award - April 2002 - Department for Education & Skills - Improving School
- Healthy Schools Award
- Investors in Education Business Partnership
- Sports College Status
We are currently working towards The Listening School with the NSPCC and Investors in People.
In September 1995 the College welcomed its first Sixth Form Students. This led to the College gaining a £3 million building programme, partially funded by European Regional Development
Funds to provide 'state of the art' accommodation and facility at the Borough Road Centre for the new Sixth Form, increased Year 7 numbers and Training Development for local Business and Industry.
1999 saw the new Food Technology and Textile facilities and additional Computer suite on the Borough Road site. A new £800,000 Music and Drama suite was completed on the Waterleat Road site in July 2001. A brand new sports hall and fitness suite was officially opened in July 2003 on the Borough Road site which will greatly enhance the College’s development as a Sports College.
Additionally in September 2003 Borough Road took possession of a brand new three storey building ready for a September 2003 start. This building provides new classrooms, science labs, ICT suites, graphics, music and drama facilities and a new reception and early in the Autumn term of 2004, Michael Morpurgo, the Children’s Laureate, officially opened the new Library and Learning Support building at Waterleat Road site, providing an invaluable resource for Teaching and Learning in the College. Building work is well underway at Borough Road which will provide additional classrooms, a multimedia suite and and a new TIC TAC Centre. Completion is expected to be Summer 2007 but could be ready to use by January or February 2007. I am sure you will agree that the College is a vibrant and dynamic place which will provide its young people with opportunities for success in so many different areas.
