Transient Pupils

Pupil mobility continues to be a major factor in the College. In July 2010 17.5% of pupils in the College were transient. In the recent OFSTED report it was noted that ‘the proportion of students that join of leave the college other than at the usual times is well above average’.

Three members of staff work with Transient Pupils across both college sites. Academic support is concentrated on Year 10 & 11 pupils, with the intention of boosting their success at GCSE examinations. The Transient Mentors (Mrs Rosie Cirin & Miss Natalie Smith) and I work with students throughout their school life to ensure that they have settled in to college. The effectiveness of care, guidance and support was rated as ‘outstanding’ in the recent OFSTED report and specific reference was made to the team of staff ‘dedicated to meeting the needs of students who arrive after the start of Year 7’.
