TIC TAC BRC

(Teenage Information Centre Teenage Advice Centre)

TIC TAC aims to support and listen to young people, and to provide a confidential service

TIC TAC is a Health Centre based on the school site which operates at lunchtime.

The Centre has health professionals who attend at lunch time who will see young people as individuals or in small groups.

Following the reorganisation of the Paignton Community & Sports College sites, both TIC TAC services are now firmly established and operational. Both the Borough Road and Waterleat Road TIC TAC operate five days a week. However, there are now only three medical professionals working at Borough Road. To counteract this the Tic Tac staff have undertaken training to enable them to run Sexual Health sessions.

More group work has been taking place in the lounge over lunchtime on the days when no medical staff are available.

Now that TIC TAC is firmly established on Borough Road after the site change, it is hoped that we can further assist our Sixth Form involvement and maybe link in with the peer-mentoring programme.

Borough Road Drop-in Sessions (covers subjects such as Peer Pressure, Bullying, Alcohol and Drug Issues, Sexual Health, Social Development, Anger Management, Self Esteem/Confidence, Self Harm, General Health, Family Issues, Social Issues):

Mondays and Wednesdays - one to one sessions with a health professional
Tuesdays: Year 10
Wednesdays: Year 11
Fridays: Years 12/13

What is the TIC TAC Centre?

  • Daily lunch time Health Centre
  • Available to all College pupils

Why have TIC TAC

  • "the need to engage more effectively with young people aged 12 - 17 years, living in the Paignton area"
  • Young people dislike visiting their GP because:
    • Location of the surgery
    • Fear of information being passed on
    • Fear of doctor

What we DO:

  • Professionals available on week days thorughout the term.
  • Structured group work is offered around social development.
  • Provide a safe place for young people to talk to positive adults and professionals.
  • Provide education opportunities and new activities.
  • Be a link for other specialists.
  • Empower young people to make informed choices and decisions.
  • Provide a confidential service within safeguarding guidelines.
  • Be a non-judgemental service.
  • Provide a service in partnership with the school to fulfil Every Child Matters agenda.
  • Be a consistent and reliable service.

What we DON'T do:

  • We don't judge young people.
  • We don't tell young people what to do, but encourage them to make the right decisions.
  • Pass information on unless we have significant concerns about a young person's welfare.
