All About Our Governors

	Chair of Governors Iris Butler Committees: First Committee, Curriculum, Strategy and Policy, Pupil Discipline, Complaints and Website, VLE and Marketing.Governor Representative for:  Principal/Headteacher’s Review and Academy Working Party.Attachments: Support Staff.Iris Butler worked in the NHS for over 35 years, with 20 of these being in Human Resources management. She was Director of Human Resources from 2001 to 2009. Iris is Vice-Chair of Rowcroft Hospice and a Trustee of CVA Torbay. Iris has been a Governor since 2007 and was appointed Chair in September 2008.  She is also a Trustee of Community and Voluntary Action -  Torbay.Interests: Sailing, Golf, Running, Walking, Yoga and Reading.
	Vice Chair of Governors Dr. Simon Tonge Committees: Curriculum, Strategy and Policy, Finance, Personnel, Pay Appeals, Sites, Buildings and Environment, Challenge & Support, Safeguarding and VLE Development & Implementation.Governor Respresentative for:  Academy Working Party.Simon has worked in Zoos for 30 years. He became the Director of Paignton Zoo and Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust in 2000. He sits on many National and International Zoo and Conservation Associations. He has also been a Board member of Torbay Development Agency.Interests: Birding, Rugby, Cricket and Travel.
	Staff Governor John Cornish Committees: Sites, Buildings & Environment, Finance and Safeguarding.Governor Representative for:  Safeguarding Children, Food for Life, Tic Tac Management Group and Academy Working Party.Attachments: Year 9 and Health & Social Sciences.John is married with one son aged 9. He has taught at Paignton Community & Sports College for 27 years in a variety of roles with responsibility. John was seconded as an Advisor to the Local Authority 2001 – 2005 and 2007 – 2009. John is the author of the Torbay RSE Secondary programme for Year 7 – 11. John is a nationally accredited teacher of SRE and holds a Diploma in PSHE.Interests: Gardening, Ornithology and Water based activities.
	Community Governor Angela Bubbear Committees: Challenge & Support, Finance, Curriculum, Strategy and Policy, Personnel, Pay Appeals, Pupil Discipline and Safeguarding .Governor Representative for:  Safeguarding Children, SEN, RAP Monitoring, Principal/Headteacher’s Review and Teaching & Learning.Attachments: Year 7, Humanities, Mathematics, Support Staff and Learning Support.Angela has two grown up children and three grandchildren. She worked in the private sector, mainly for the John Lewis Partnership, and then taught in Further Education as Head of School delivering NVQ and BTEC Qualifications. She holds a Cert. Ed. and a Diploma in Management. She believes that everyone should be supported to reach their potential.Interests: Dancing, Travelling, Art and Gardening.
	Parent Governor Allison Grant Committees: Finance and Safeguarding Committees.Attachments: Physical Education and Sport and Year 10.Allison has worked for Torbay Council for 8 years across Education and Social Care and is now Torbay Children’s Trust Manager. Allison has two children, one at primary and one at secondary school and a husband who teaches secondary pupils.Interests: Walking, Cycling, Camping and Outdoor Sports.
	Torbay Council Governor Mo Grant Committees: First Committee, Complaints, Personnel, Pay and Finance.Attachments: Year 7, Creative and Expressive Arts, Modern Foreign Languages and Support Staff.Mo is married with two grown up children. She worked for British Gas for 20 years as an Area Cashier before moving to Paignton to buy a hotel 12 years ago. She has recently retired and now works part time at Marks and Spencer.Interests: Helping out local charities.

	Staff Governor Carolyn Hunt Committees: Sites, Buildings and Environment and Pupil Discipline.Attachments: Year 8 and Physical Education and Sport.Carolyn is a mother of four and spent 16 years moving around Europe and the UK with her husband who was in the Army. The family settled in Devon in 1998. Carolyn has worked at Paignton Community & Sports College as a Librarian since 2003.Interests: Walking the dog, supporting sons at Cricket, Rugby and Surfing, Reading, Cookery and Entertaining.
	Parent Governor Tracey Litt Committees: Curriculum, Strategy and Policy, Personnel, Pay Appeals and Website, VLE Development & Implentation and Appeals.Attachments: Year 11 and Science.Tracey is married to Doug and they have three children. Two of her children have benefitted greatly from attending Paignton Community & Sports College. One is now at Birmingham University and another has a place to study the International Baccalaureate. Tracey worked as a Biomedical Scientist in the NHS for 10 years so has a particular interest in Science.
	Parent Governor Jim Short Committees: Pay Appeals, Appeals,Sites, Buildings and Environment, Pupil Discipline and Complaints.Attachments: Year 11, Science, Physical Education and Sport and Support Staff.Jim has lived in Paignton for 25 years. He has worked for Europlas, a local Home Improvements Company for 21 years where he is currently the General Manager. Jim is married with three children aged 22, 17 and 12.Interests: Boxing, Sailing, Golf, Running and the Gym.
	Torbay Council Governor Jo Tucker Committees: Personnel, Curriculum, Strategy and Policy, Pay, Challenge & Support, Pupil Discipline, VLE Development & Implementation and First Committee.Governor Representative for:  RAP Monitoring, Principal/Headteacher’s Review, Literacy, Enquiry School and Teaching & Learning.Attachments: English and Media Studies and Learning Support.Jo has recently retired from teaching after 37 years. For the last 14 of those years she was the Headteacher of Foxhole Junior School. She is totally committed to lifelong learning.Interests: Keep Fit, Gardening, Antiques and Reading.
	Staff Governor Mark Williams Committees: Curriculum, Strategy and Policy Committee.Attachments: Behaviour and Attendance Policy.Mark has been a teacher for 12 years and a Head of Year for 8. He has recently been promoted to Assistant Headteacher. Before teaching Mark was a Royal Marines Commando.Interests: Cooking, Running and Music (Mark plays the classical guitar).
	Parent Governor Deborah Hutton-Hands Committees: Safeguarding, VLE Development & Implementation and Pupil Discipline.Attachments: Year 9.Deborah is a married mum with 2 children.  She is currently unemployed awaiting hip replacement surgery.  Deborah used to work out in the community.Interests:  Cinema, Theatre and Socialising.
	Staff Governor Laura Hay Committees:  Curriculum, Strategy & Policy, Sites and Buildings & Environment.Attachments:  6th Form. Laura has been the College’s Careers Coordinator since 2007 and holds a BSc in Social Psychology and Post Graduate Certificate in Managing Careers Education.  Laura believes in ‘inspiring tomorrow’s workforce through the children of today’.Interests:  Sewing, Cars (driving, showing and cleaning!) and Salsa Dancing.
	Parent Governor Cheryl Norrish Committees: Personnel. Attachments:  Year 11. Cheryl has one daughter in Year 7.  She has been teaching in Secondary Education for 13 years.  She is currently working as a Business Lecturer at South Devon College.Interests: Yoga, Nutrition, Cookery and Dog Walking.
	Community Governor Kate Richards Committees: Finance.   Attachments: Mathematics and Year 10.  Kate is currently an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at the Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education based at the University of Plymouth.  Before this she spent 19 years teaching mathematics.  She is dedicated to inspiring children and adults to understand and enjoy mathematics and statistics. Interests: Gardening, reading, swimming.
