The Friends of Paignton Community and Sports College is an association of parents and teachers of the College and it exists to provide a link between home and College. All parents and/or guardians of children who are attending, or who have attended the College are eligible to join, as well as members of the local community.
It must be pointed out that this is not just a fund-raising
organisation. The emphasis is primarily on making parents aware of what is going on educationally at this College in particular and also more generally in the education world. This does not mean that the Committee will not raise funds. In the past it has made tremendous efforts to help provide the College with those extras, which the College's official budget cannot afford e.g. provision of new kit for the sports teams, tables for the quiet areas, and more recently, new lockers are being provided throughout the whole school for the pupils.
The Friends of Paignton Community and Sports College are
considered to be the official voice of parental opinion and the Committee is often asked to discuss matters of importance.
The Committee's thoughts are valued and are taken into account when College policy is being generated or modified.
The Committee usually meets 6/7 times a year. During this time they arrange events such as Cabaret Evenings, a Christmas Fayre, Quiz Night, Drugs Awareness Evening and other social occasions and there is a Badminton Club which runs on Friday evenings in the Sports Hall from 8.30 to 10.00 pm.
The Annual General Meeting of the Association is held in the Autumn Term, normally on the evening of the first Monday in October. The Constitution allows for six parents from each year to serve on the Committee.
All parents are informed, via a newsletter, of forthcoming events and all are welcome to attend. New blood and new ideas are always welcome on the Committee so please volunteer your name if you are interested. Even if you decide that Committees are not for you, but you would like to help out at any of our events, your support would be most welcome.
How much does it cost? An annual subscription of £1.00
minimum per pupil covers both parents but many feel that they would like to subscribe more and this, of course, is greatly
appreciated. The more support we get, by way of funds raised, the more lockers we can provide.
We look forward to meeting you - please join us if you can!
